This is my adoption try for number 2 in :icondarkangel613613: auction. You can find the auction here.

Everything in this piece is deliberate, i was attempting to set a tiny bit of mood..which might have failed some. If a color is flat then it was meant to be flat, if it was shaded it was meant to be shaded.

Here is my story, oh and the picture is best set with a higher contrast, it looked soo good on my desktop(where i do all my art) and just washed out and awful on my laptop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Paul Lawson loped the two year old filly around the wide dirt area with a determined set to his brow. His seat was heavy but his hand light on the reins considering his thoughts. This little girl was his “lifetime bonus” purchased by the ranch he used to work for out in Oklahoma before he shipped out and sent off back home, back to Arizona. His wife had left him for an insurances salesman in Tulsa. He was thirty seven and had no kids, a retirement fund totaling thirty grand—a hell of a lot less than most people had in the bank when they retired—and the mare under him, executing precise lead changes with little to no provocation. He had spent the majority of his life breaking cuttin’ horses and now he had her, a two year old halter mare, green broke—because he broke her—by a stallion named Expressive Mr and out of a mare named Suzy Bar. Both of which he had looked into rather than up and he had to say he was surprised the Wilson Ranch hadn’t screwed him over.

He moved his hand left and she headed for the center of the arena, chewing at the bit as they came to a halt. Paul backed her, sent her forward again and dismounted lingering longer in the stirrup than ever necessary but she was still in training. His hand pressing into her shoulder, she tossed her head into the air and chomped at the bit again. Paul half smiled, the corner of his lips turning up into a small smile, “What am I going to do with you huh?” The flaxen chestnut mare looked back at him, flicking her ear, “Ya that’s what I thought to.” Paul said, they had a week, no a lifetime for his stupid questions that she could only ever answer with a blank stair. Paul sighed, this girl, no matter how far they got in the show ring wouldn’t bring back his wife and knowing where she was—and who she was doing—he didn’t want her back and he didn’t want to remember it either. The white line on his finger where his ring had been a constant reminder he didn’t need. Paul moved to the mares side, one foot in the stirrup and he was on again, “Come on Sugar Mama, we got work to do.” The mare stepped out in a light shuffle of her own accord, her haunches swaying behind her.

She had the run of the ranch or so she believed. Being the only quarter horses on a property filled with Saddlebreds and a hand full of Arabians left Sugar Mama feeling rather entitled. Rather special, rather important. Everyday wasn’t easy and every ride wasn’t smooth but she had little more than most and most importantly she had Paul’s affections all for her own.

Just a suggestion, but maybe you'd consider resetting your monitors to default? That's probably what most people use, and if they have their monitors set funny and your pics look weird for them then it's their own fault. But then again maybe you're already on default and just not all defaults at the same. lD

My pics used to have smudges that only showed up on dark monitors and I started darkening the image as a test and make sure everything was clean, then putting it back the way it was supposed to be. It was a pain.

Ps, this is great.
